Upper GI Endoscopy

Upper GI endoscopy or esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD) is performed in patients with heartburn or symptoms of gastritis. Olympus offers a broad endoscope range from ultrathin to therapeutic gastroscopes and full compatibility with a large range of endotherapy devices. Highly advanced gastroscopes featuring HDTV, Dual Focus, and Narrow Band Imaging help to detect and diagnose abnormalities like ulcers, metaplasia and neoplasia in the upper GI tract, and support targeted biopsies.

Diagnostic Colonoscopy

Diagnostic colonoscopy is performed to detect and diagnose colorectal abnormalities even at their earliest stages. Using the advanced Olympus EVIS EXERA III platform, physicians have access to today’s best diagnostic tools, including full HDTV image quality along with technologies such as Pre-Freeze, Dual Focus, and Narrow Band Imaging (NBI). Responsive Insertion Technology and Scopeguide support efficient and quick insertion combined with maximum patient comfort. In addition, EVIS EXERA III scopes are compatible with a full lineup of endoscopic devices and accessories.

Endocytoscopy

By introducing Endocyto, Olympus has broken new ground in endoscopy. Ultrahigh magnification of up to 520× enables observation at microscopic level and helps to improve diagnostic accuracy by allowing real-time in vivo observation of cells and nuclei. Thus, Endocyto presents a new era in diagnostic endoscopy, feeding research and opening up new horizons in advanced optical diagnosis.

Therapeutic Colonoscopy

Therapeutic colonoscopy is useful in performing minimally invasive procedures on the lower GI tract, such as polypectomy, hemostasis, resection, and foreign body extraction. Olympus endoscopic devices are specifically designed for maximum compatibility with Olympus colonoscope channels and include a full array of forceps, loops, graspers, snares, needles, and probes.

Endoscopic Ultrasound

Endoscopic ultrasound combines the advantages of the two medical disciplines endoscopy and ultrasonography. The ultrasound transducer is integrated in the distal end of the endoscope which allows the close positioning of the transducer at the region of interest, one important factor of the unrivalled resolution of the EUS image.

ERCP

Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is an effective technique for diagnosing and treating problems in the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas. The Olympus TJF-Q180V duodenovideoscope, designed exclusively for ERCP procedures and compatible with the new EVIS EXERA III imaging platform, features a dual guidewire locking mechanism that works with the dedicated Olympus V-System endoscopic devices for increased ERCP efficiency.

Tissue Sampling

Tissue sampling may be used when a suspicious lesion is detected visually or with narrow-band imaging during endoscopy. If further investigation of suspicious lesions is required, it will be necessary to obtain a tissue sample for pathological analysis.

Polypectomy, EMR and ESD

Treatment with gastrointestinal endoscopy has evolved rapidly over the past few years. With the advent of polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR), and endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD), removal of mucosal abnormalities has become more effective and less invasive.

Hemostasis

Upper GI tract bleeding can be caused by gastroduodenal ulcers, inflammation (such as gastritis, oesophagitis or duodenitis), varices, ruptures (e.g. Mallory Weiss tear), malignant tumours, vascular malformations (e.g. Dieulafoy lesions), and after treatment (e.g. polypectomy, mucosectomy, endoscopic mucosal resection, or endoscopic submucosal dissection). Olympus offers multiple devices to perform effective hemostasis.

Foreign Body Removal

Patients may swallow or inhale a wide variety of items, which then require removal from their gastrointestinal or respiratory tracts. Items commonly requiring removal include spoons, stones, coins, needles, batteries, razor blades, small bones, and stents. Removal of foreign bodies by endoscopy is a safe and efficient technique. It is also relatively comfortable for the patient.

Stricture Management

Balloon dilation is a useful and noninvasive means of overcoming gastrointestinal strictures from a variety of causes. Olympus offers an extensive array of balloon dilators for a range of anatomical situations.
